Google confirms Pixel 2's Now Playing feature has issues with some apps

As most of you might be aware, Now Playing is a Google Pixel 2 feature which automatically recognizes the music playing around you, and tells you what it is on the device’s Always-On Display. But sadly, the functionality is not working as intended for some.

Specifically, those who use the Words With Friends app are reporting issues with Now Playing, saying the feature doesn’t work at all when the app is in use.

Recently, we stumbled upon a thread on Pixel User Community, where a couple of users brought it to the company’s notice that every time they open the Words With Friends (WWF) app, it causes Now Playing to stop working.

Affected users also added that the Now Playing feature stays suspended unless they reboot the device, which again is only a temporary workaround, as the moment they open the WWF app, Now Playing stops working again.

One of the users also confirmed the aforementioned Now Playing problem occurs both on the new and old version of Words With Friends app.

Soon after the problem came to light, Google employee Brandon-PM quickly acknowledged the issue, and said

Yes, these reports have made us aware of this issue, and we’re working on a fix

We’re not sure why exactly the problem is happening, as well as whether or not there are other such apps with which Now Playing might have compatibility issues. As far as WWF is concerned, the Google Play listing for the app reveals it has over 10 million installs. So it’s quite a popular app.

What’s, however, good is that Google’s aware and the problem is being worked on. Sadly, there’s no known time line, as to how long will it take to fix the glitch. We really hope that happens sooner than later.
