Latest Gboard update brings typing suggestion strip for Chrome on Android

Back in January, Android users started reporting that Gboard – Google’s own keyboard app – doesn’t give typing suggestions when they input something in Chrome’s address bar or Google search box in the browser.

Soon thereafter, complainants were informed by one of the Google Product Forum Community Specialists that it’s an expected behavior. They said the feature wasn’t supported for the reason that the Chrome address bar (or Omnibox as it’s officially called) or Google search already offers predictive text and suggestions feature.

Users were, however, advised to submit feedback to the company if they wanted this feature implemented. Looks like some of them did that and Google actually took the feedback seriously, as this morning a Google employee broke the news that Gboard now shows the typing suggestion strip when being used in the Chrome app.

We updated Gboard based on your feedback. We now show the suggestion strip in Gboard when you type in the Chrome Omnibox.

So if you are among those who were waiting for this functionality, look out for the latest Gboard update. And those who wish to learn more about how to use Gboard can head here.
