Google quickly fixes 'backed-up pictures missing from Web' issue with Google Photos [Updated]

Update (October 26):

Google officially called Google Photos’ pictures missing from Web issue fixed. Here’s what Google employee Ben (who is also the Community Manager at the official Photos forum) said while confirming the fix:

Original story below:

Last week, several Google Photos users started complaining that the service’s Web version was not showing recently uploaded pictures, despite being successfully backed-up on cloud. They noted that pictures could be clearly seen on the Photos’ mobile apps, but were missing from desktop or mobile site.

The aforementioned glitch occurred for the pictures uploaded to Google Photos October 17 onwards. Users also mentioned that the pictures were viewable through ‘Recent Activity’ in the Search tab, and could also be searched by using a keyword, but were nowhere to be seen on the Home page/Photos tab.

As can be seen in the following user shared screenshots, a picture dated October 20, only showed up when searched with the keyword:

A bit of investigation revealed that Google knew about the issue (the confirmation came from someone who’s an expert volunteer at the official Google Photos forum).

And if there were still any doubts about that, those were quelled after mainstream tech media highlighted the problem.

Likely because of such widespread coverage in media, Google apparently acted quick and fixed the problem. This morning, users on the relevant threads at the official Photos forum started reporting that the issue has been taken care of.

We can also confirm at our end that the issue has indeed been fixed, as now the recent uploads do show up on both desktop and mobile websites.
