Latest update to Google's Phone app fixes call duration bug on Pixel phones

Back in July this year, several Pixel phone users brought to notice that after updating to the Google Phone app v10.1.161735957, extra call minutes were being added to their call durations.

Specifically, they reported that whenever an incoming or outgoing call of a time duration more than 00:59 seconds or 1 minute happened, the Phone app automatically added 30 minutes to it – for example, a call of 2 minutes and 15 seconds would show up as 32 minutes and 15 seconds.

The following user-shared screenshots of the Google Phone app (right) in comparison to a third-party app (left) gives a clear picture of what the problem was:

The problem continued to exist even after the Android Oreo 8.0 update arrived, which featured a new version (v11.0.164102751) of the Phone app. Finally, it got officially acknowledged on August 29.

Specifically, a Google employee Orrin (who is also the Community Manager at the official Pixel forum) said that they have identified a fix as well.

After waiting for more than a month for the fix to roll out, it was recently updated on the same thread that the call duration issue may have been fixed in the Phone app’s latest version 13.0.171616398.

And today, the original complainant confirmed that it’s indeed the case. As a proof, they shared the following screenshot that clearly shows that those extra 30 minutes are no longer being added by the Phone app.

In case you have been facing the same problem on your Pixel device, update to the Phone app’s latest version, which you can grab from APKMirror.
