Gmail app for iOS may soon support non-Google accounts

For evaluating and exploring all major shortcomings, as well as areas to be worked on before launching a feature or software globally, most companies go for a beta launch. Same goes for Google.

Team Gmail took to Twitter yesterday to invite users of its iOS app to test a new functionality as a part of a beta program. The feature in question is third-party email support.

Quite clearly, with this new feature, Gmail is targeting to compete with Apple’s default Mail app, which already offers third-party email support. It’s worth mentioning that Gmail on Android already allows users to add non-Google accounts.

All it takes to join the beta program is that one should already be a user of the official Gmail iOS app, have a non-Google email account, and should be using a device running iOS 10 or later.

Those eligible can fill a form (here) to sign up, and be a part of the test.

The beta program is open to iPhone, iPad and iPod users and, currently supports email services like Yahoo, Yandex, Mail.ru, Outlook, Hotmail, and Live. So if you wish to be a part, sign-up to see how the feature actually works.

As is the norm, if everything goes fine during the beta test, the functionality should be made available to all iOS users shortly thereafter.
