Chrome throws blank gray screen for certain websites on macOS High Sierra , Google accepts issue

Of late, there have been complaints related to Google Chrome encountering a glitch on macOS while accessing random websites. Specifically, the issue is being reported by macOS High Sierra users, who say Chrome displays a blank gray screen (shown below) instead of the requested website like Gmail, Facebook, or Google Docs.

A user took to Twitter to bring the issue to team Chrome’s notice.

Soon after, the team reverted back and officially acknowledged the problem.

They also provided a link to a Chromium bug page, where the issue in question – #773705: Rendering glitches in High Sierra (macOS 10.13) – is being discussed. If you are thinking about what brings Chromium in picture, well, Chromium is an open source Web browser, whose source code is used by Google Chrome.

Getting back to the problem, a quick look at the discussion, led by team Chromium, reveals that the issue may be specific to some High Sierra-powered Mac devices using NVidia GPU.

While the actual cause of the issue is yet to be officially confirmed, affected users are being asked to share their about:gpu page information (as soon as they observe the buggy behavior) to help debug the problem. So as it stands, the issue is being actively investigated.

Like always, we’ll be providing updates on all developments related to the problem. So keep a tab here, if you are also facing the same issue.
