Google Allo's integration with phone contacts broken, fix being worked on

Back in August, an update was rolled out to Google Allo messaging app (v15) which integrated the app with contacts on one’s mobile. Basically, the feature gave users the ability to open the app directly from within phone’s contacts app, making it easy for the user to start a conversation with the contact in question.

As clear from the screenshot below, the integration resulted in a shortcut link for messaging through Allo, right next to the contact in the phone’s contact list.

However, soon after the feature’s launch, users on the official Allo forum started complaining that this integration is broken.

Specifically, within two weeks of the feature’s incorporation in the app, a few Android users operating Allo’s v15 or later started reporting that they could see shortcuts for other apps like WhatsApp, Telegram etc (next to the contact), but Allo’s messaging shortcut was nowhere to be seen.

Hot on heels of it coming to light, Google acknowledged the issue. Here’s what the company said:

Looks this this feature was causing some issues and is currently being looked at — tldr; we’re aware and working on bringing it back ASAP

So the good thing is that Google knows about the issue and a fix is being worked on. Hopefully, the feature will be back again soon. Meanwhile, you can keep a tab here, as we’ll keep you posted about all future developments related to this problem.
